Best Earplugs for Me Jul 22, 2010 I'm very happy to have found these earplugs at such a reasonable price! I've looked for these particular ear plugs since using them years ago. I've used earplugs since college (40 years) to help me sleep. I've tried many different kinds over the years and this model is the best I've found. I just clip the cord off. I've also had good experience using these in a gun range. They are less cumbersome than the ear muff style hearing protection and seem to do just as good a job.
Well-Constructed and Inexpensive Jun 27, 2010 This review is of the box of 50 corded pairs of earplugs. In design they are akin to EarPlanes but without the internal valve: a tip, several rubberoid flanges and a stiff shaft that protrudes out past the ear. As with EarPlanes, they must be correctly inserted to seat and work properly. As earplugs, they work quite well at reducing (not eliminating) noise; I find them superior to the foam plugs for ease of insertion, noise reduction and capacity to stay in the ear canal. My only complaint is that for people like me with sensitive ear canalsthey are a bit stiff and can feel a bit unpleasant if shoved in too quickly or left in too long. But that is a minor drawback when balanced against the increased utility of the plastic cord that keeps the plugs together and allows you to dangle them around your neck when they are not in use. Each pair each comes with its own plastic case, so that you can wash them put them away and reuse them.
Caveat: these plugs are designed for workplace/industrial/high noise applications, not as sleeping earplugs. I did try using them them for sleeping as well as during the day but I can't recommend them for sleeping purposes because of the danger of having the stem of the plug cause damage if your head were to press it down and shove the entire plug too deeply into your ear canal. (No, that didn't happen to me but it could have--yikes!)
Outstanding Deal, Great Product Jun 20, 2010 I'm into shooting sports and have been for over 35 Years. In that time I have had a lot of experience with hearing protection. I also worked around aircraft and associated equipment in my 23 year military career also requiring hearing protection. I'm well aware of the importance of hearing protection. I have used and acquired many different types of hearing protection over the years.
As far as ear plugs go these are at least as good as any plugs I have used or still own with the same NRR rating when inserted properly. I find them more effective than some plugs that I paid more for. I use these mostly around the house for jobs like cutting the grass, running a snow blower and other loud equipment. They are fine for those environments. On the shooting range I use a different type of hearing protection because I like to be able to hear conversation and range commands while still having adequate protection from loud noises. These plugs wont do that, they reduce all sound. Great for yard and shop work. So while they will protect your hearing from gun shots they are not ideal for the range if you also want to be able to hear commands being shouted.
I bought these on a gold box deal and the cost worked out to 23 cents per set. You cant beat that deal. So they are cheap enough to keep a few extra sets in the range bag to give away. I would recommend them at this tremendous discount price.

Outstanding buy for the money!!! Jun 02, 2010 Outstanding buy for the money.
I use these for motorcycle riding and they work well WHEN FULLY INSERTED IN THE EAR CANAL. It makes a huge difference. For the reviewer who was disappointed in the performance, perhaps he is not inserting the plugs fully in the ear canal. The method that I use (from reading earplug insertion instructions) is: for the left ear, reach around the head with the right hand and pull down on the left earlob to open the ear canal while inserting the plug with the left hand. For the right ear, reach around the head with the left hand and pull down on the earlob while inserting with the right hand. Simply trying to shove the plug into the ear canal doesn't work for me...it only partially enters and nearly falls out.
For motorcyclists, the tethers are very helpful to avoid loss, and I can still hear my bluetooth phone mp3 with the volume turned up in the helmet speaker. Wind noise is dramatically reduced.
