A great value compared to the less expensive E230 Feb 13, 2010 If you're trying to choose between this and the E230, I suggest this is a better value. The measurement scale is much easier to read, the markings are more precise, and the blade is sturdier and locks down more securely. Also, this tool contains a hand scribe. Finally, the entire tool has a much more solid feel. The E230, while a good value for the price, is more like something you would find bundled in a budget tool kit.
And yes, the bubble level is easier to read too.

Solid product Feb 11, 2010 Empire comes through again with this combination square. It is cheap and very well built. I love the compression holder for the scribe as opposed to the normal pain-in-the-rear screw type. I prefer the blue vial, it seems to be easier to identify the bubble in lower light conditions. I cannot speak for all products everyone will ever get but by level was dead on right out of the box. That always makes me happy. Everything else about the square is just as I would hope. Smooth operation and as accurate as anyone could need.

combination square Jan 14, 2010 bought this to replace the one I bought 25 years ago. The ruler had tarnished and was no longer legible. This one item looks to be of even better quality. I look forward to it outliving me!

Good combination square Nov 24, 2009 Great value for the price and dead accurate. Ideal for construction pros, carpenters and wood workers. If you are a tool and die maker journeyman, you already have Starret or other brand unique to your trade. Some may quibble over the 1/8" markings, but come on now, who can't guestimate to a sixteenth between two well etched marks? What tips the scale is the stainless steel blade. We've all had that "Oh #@&%**!" moment realizing that an ordinary steel square got left outside in the damp on a construction site.

Seems Nov 03, 2009 I'm new to woodworking so in my limited experience, this is a very good product. I rate it a 4 simply b/c I don't have much experience.
