Extremely well made Jul 12, 2010 Awesome marker. Built solid, easy to adjust, holds position firmly and leaves a nice visible marking line. Indispensable for dovetailing!
DO NOT listen to the other reviewers, they are obviously trying to tighten the locking screw WAYYY to much, and apparently do not know how to hold and use a marking gauge correctly.

Cheap made in China crap Mar 30, 2010 I used this gauge for a week and the brass screw stripped out making it useless. Don't waste your money on this made in China crap. I wasted 15 dollars after shipping.

Poor quality Jan 29, 2010 The screw easily strips out since it's made of brass; as such, the wheel can't be tightened enough to keep it from slipping.

A good tool, but not a great tool Jan 10, 2009 I have used this tool to mark cut lines for mortise and tenon joints, dovetail joints and guidelines for bracket/drawer slide mounting. It takes a little practice to hold the tool firmly in a consistent manner so that the lines are scribed consistently. I expect that any tool of this general design will have this issue.
This is a useful marking tool, easy to set and makes nice clean marks.
It might be nice to have measurements built into this tool rather than having to set the distance against a ruler, but it is very easy to set relative to an existing mark whose distance you want to duplicate.
The set screw does need to be firmly tighted and checked periodically to make sure that your distance setting has not changed during use.
I have found the need to frequently check that the screw securing the cutting blade is tight. Once loose, the scribe marks are not accurate as the blade can wobble quite a bit with only a little play under the screw head.
On some of the more expensive marking guages I notice a recess in the guide wheel into which the cutter can be positioned for storage, but that is not a feature of this tool. That seems like a good idea, but the lack of this feature has not caused me any problems.

Marking gauge Sep 23, 2008 If you do woodworking and don't have one of these, this one works pretty good. You will use it more than you think.
